Melbourne photographer, Annika Kafcaloudis, examines the meeting point of the natural world and creative labour through VESSEL; a debut solo exhibition of photographs at Oigåll Projects 24 September – 30 September 2021.
Documenting a range of different practices within Melbourne, Annika Kafcaloudis keenly observes the refining and negotiation that occurs between nature and human hands to create a new form.
Each image in VESSEL situates the viewer into a space of observation, squarely between the natural world and a cultural one. Annika’s main interest is in the documentation of processes to create a lasting archive of technique that belongs to a particular time and space. There’s less attention on the finished product or plate and more emphasis on the tradition or non-tradition of the discipline, and the community that it comes from.
